Having a close friend or family member who is struggling with the symptoms of adjustment disorder can be a difficult experience, and even make a person feel powerless against this condition. However, if you wish to help someone in your life get the treatment he or she needs, there are some things that you can do to help this individual. Consider the following suggestions:
- Learn about adjustment disorder and speak with your loved one about how he or she is feeling. Be open to hearing what he or she has to say and do your best to respond with compassion and empathy,
- Talk with your loved one about the need for treatment. If it helps, offer to go along with him or her to speak with a provider of care to learn more about the benefits of seeking care for adjustment disorder.
- If your loved one agrees to go to treatment, be sure offer your support before, during, and after treatment is received.
- Learn what you can do to help your loved one effectively manage the symptoms of adjustment disorder.
Finally, it is important to continue taking care of yourself as well. In order to be of the best help to the person you care about, you must ensure that you are feeling healthy.
By following through on the aforementioned suggestions, you will be able to help someone you care about heal and overcome the symptoms of adjustment disorder.
Why Consider Treatment at Greenleaf Behavioral Health Hospital
Without professional care, those battling adjustment disorder are likely to experience numerus adverse effects as a result. Occupational responsibilities may go unfulfilled, duties at home can become neglected, and relationships with friends and family members may begin to suffer as well. Additionally, a person battling untreated adjustment disorder may turn to the abuse of substances to cope with his or her emotional distress, and it is possible for someone with adjustment disorder to eventually experience symptoms synonymous with other mental illnesses. For these reasons, and more, it is important to seek proper professional care if the symptoms of this disorder become apparent.
Program Philosophy and Benefits
At Greenleaf Behavioral Health Hospital, we recognize that our clients have walked a long path before reaching our doors and that they have faced a variety of complications along the way. It is our mission to accept our responsibility as the destination of the journey that has led them to us. We commit to giving 100% of ourselves in effort and training in order to become experts in our field so that we can provide exceptional treatment and therapeutic programming in a safe environment. Our goal is to send our clients from our door onto the path of full recovery with the confidence they need to be successful.
Types of Treatment Offered at Greenleaf Behavioral Health Hospital
Upon arriving at Greenleaf Behavioral Health Hospital, each client will participate in a comprehensive assessment in order to provide our staff with all of the information necessary to determine his or her exact treatment needs. Once the evaluation is complete, it will be reviewed by one of our psychiatrists in order to determine the appropriate level of care and to confirm admission. Our approach to treatment is client-centered, and all of our programs are designed to meet the individual needs of our clients through a compassionate approach that is led by a team of highly trained psychiatrists and mental health professionals. Some of the treatment methods that we use at Greenleaf Behavioral Health Hospital include:
Medication management: In many cases, medication is used to help alleviate some of the specific symptoms of adjustment disorder. It may also be used to treat any co-occurring disorders that may exist. Clients who are prescribed medication will meet with a psychiatrist daily in order to ensure the therapeutic effectiveness of the medication, as well as to make any changes that may be necessary.
Individual therapy sessions are held on an as-needed basis and are meant to be a time where clients can meet privately with a therapist in order to learn how to cope with the symptoms of adjustment disorder and work towards developing coping skills and the other tools they need to help control their thoughts and regulate their emotions.
Group therapy sessions are held four times each day and cover a wide variety of topics. Some of the major topics that are discussed during these group sessions include anger management, stress management, and learning how to effectively express emotions and develop appropriate communication and life skills.
Family therapy sessions are held on an as-needed basis with the amount being increased or decreased depending upon the client’s individual treatment plan. Additionally, we offer educational sessions to the family members of our clients in order to help them learn more about adjustment disorder and guide them in how they can best support their loved one.
Recreational therapy is held once a day and is a time where individuals are provided with the opportunity to participate in physical activities such as playing tennis and basketball or using our pool and gym facilities.
We also pride ourselves in the fact that we have working relationships with providers outside of our hospital. We allow outpatient therapists to come in and meet with their clients while being treated in our hospital, adding to the comfort level that we strive to provide for our clients.
Depending upon one’s specific treatment plan, A.A. and N.A. meetings are offered once per week.
Continuing Care and Levels of Treatment
At Greenleaf Behavioral Health Hospital, in addition to our inpatient treatment center, we also offer a couple of outpatient treatment options for clients who are ready to step down from an inpatient level of care. We offer several different outpatient tracks including a substance abuse track and mental health track for adults. Our partial hospitalization program (PHP) is designed to treat adults and meets for 4 hours a day. The partial hospitalization program typically lasts for a period of 2 to 4 weeks and offers group sessions that cover topics such as coping skills, relaxation, and anger management. During these programs, clients are also provided with weekly sessions with their therapist and weekly meetings with a psychiatrist for medication management. Some clients, on the other hand, might find that they are ready to return home. When the time to discharge from our program approaches, we work to set our clients up with outpatient therapists and outside aftercare programs, as well as help identify any appropriate community resources. Additionally, we offer an aftercare program every Thursday that is designed specifically to check in on clients who have been discharged from our programs.
