At Greenleaf Behavioral Health Hospital, we offer inpatient and outpatient programs for adolescents and adults who are struggling with addictions and mental health conditions. Located in Valdosta, Georgia, our 113-bed hospital provides a secure and nurturing environment for healing and growth.

Who We Serve

Greenleaf Behavioral Health Hospital serves individuals in Georgia and other southeastern states, including Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee. We support adolescents ages 12-17 and adults age 18 and older.

Before admission, each patient completes a thorough assessment, which allows us to determine the most appropriate level of care for their needs. Based on their age, their diagnosis, and the intensity of their symptoms, patients may be placed in one of the following programs:

  • Inpatient program for adolescents and adults: Full-time care for acute mental health and substance use concerns
  • Substance use unit with on-site detox for adults: 28-day inpatient program for withdrawal management and addiction recovery
  • Partial hospitalization program (PHP) for adults: Structured daytime program for mental health conditions and addictions
  • Intensive outpatient program (IOP) for adolescents and adults: Ongoing therapeutic support to promote lifelong recovery and mental wellness

Adolescent Inpatient Program

The teenage years are a pivotal and often tumultuous time in a person’s life. This in-between stage (no longer a child but not yet an adult) brings unique challenges, like:

  • Physical changes during puberty, which may affect body image and self-esteem
  • Hormonal fluctuations that can cause mood swings and heightened emotions
  • Peer pressure, relationship conflicts, and unhealthy family dynamics
  • Academic stress and worries about the future
  • Personal identity versus social conformity

During adolescence, the areas of the brain that are responsible for impulse control and decision-making are still developing. As a result, young people may find it hard to cope with stress and are particularly susceptible to risky behavior.

These biological, psychological, and social factors can contribute to the onset of mental health and substance use disorders.

We provide age-appropriate inpatient care for young people ages 12-17 to help them regain a sense of physical and emotional safety. Our adolescent inpatient program typically lasts five to 10 days.

Adult Inpatient Program

The pressures of adulthood, from career demands to family responsibilities and financial strain, can take a serious toll on a person’s well-being. When these burdens become too much to bear, each day can feel like a fight for survival. An individual who is living in this state of intense psychological distress might:

  • Isolate themselves
  • Dissociate from reality
  • Become emotionally numb or detached
  • Have panic attacks
  • Feel hopeless or helpless
  • Have thoughts of suicide

These symptoms can indicate a mental health crisis and/or an underlying condition like depression, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia. Our adult inpatient program is designed to address urgent symptoms and prepare patients for further care. The length of stay can range from five to 12 days, depending on the individual’s needs and the severity of their symptoms.

Substance Abuse Inpatient Unit

Adults who have a primary diagnosis of a substance use disorder can receive focused support in our substance abuse inpatient unit. This 28-day program combines medical and therapeutic services to help patients navigate the early stages of recovery. Detox, which lasts around three to seven days, is a crucial part of this process. Overseen by our medical director, nurses, and nurse practitioners, detox promotes physical stability, enhances mental clarity, and paves the way for long-term healing.

Partial Hospitalization Program

Our partial hospitalization program, available for adults, is a step between inpatient care and outpatient therapy. Programming takes place five days a week, five hours each day, over the course of four to six weeks. We offer distinct groups for mental health and substance use, covering topics like depression, anxiety, and relapse prevention. Person-centered care and evidence-based practices, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI), are key elements of our PHP. Additionally, patients can meet one-on-one with a therapist to talk about individual concerns outside of the group setting. Nurses and nurse practitioners provide weekly medical care.

Intensive Outpatient Program

For adolescents and adults who need less intensive care and more flexibility in scheduling, our IOP can be an ideal solution. Group therapy, held three times each week, is the foundation of our IOP. In these sessions, patients can connect with their peers and learn more about mental health and addiction. Therapists incorporate CBT and motivational interviewing techniques to help patients enhance their coping skills and make positive life changes. In our IOP, we also offer individual therapy and medication management services. The average duration of this program is four to six weeks.
